The signal from the detector is sent to the CRT where it will control the brightness of the image spot.
An X-Y sweep circuit then generates the signal to scan both the SEM electron beam and the CRT spot. This fixed signal passes straight to the CRT. However, on the way to the SEM, it passes through variable gain amplifiers.
