Another magnetic lens and another aperture further refine the electron beam and it then passes into a final lens.

This lens focuses the electrons into a narrow parallel beam. The width of this beam will determine the resolution of the SEM. State-of-the-art SEM's typically produce beams of 10 to 100 Angstroms width. (An Angstrom is 10-10 meters or about the size of one atom).
