But when the ball touches the metal bar, some of its excess electrons spread to the ball.
The rod, bar and ball are ALL now negatively charged. However, the group of electrons (originally stolen from the fur) is now spread more thinly.
Because the bar and ball are both negatively charged, "electrostatic force" pushes them apart.
