What happens if we line up two magnets side by side, with their magnetic fields parallel?
They will try very hard to get away from one another!
Let’s bring the upper magnet back, and attach a shaft to it.
If we now hold that shaft, the magnet’s only choice is to rotate.
After rotating half a turn, its magnetic field is opposite that of the lower magnet - and the two magnets will then be attracted.
